Coventry Carol
(Quintet)
Originally arranged SATB by John Dankworth, arranged here for Brass Quintet with optional Glockenspiel – an arrangement based upon the full-band version, also available from Wobbleco. This lovely but very melancholy carol was originally associated with the English Mystery Plays which were put on every year around the 1600s by the guilds of the various towns to illustrate Bible stories. The story of the 'carol' is effectively The Massacre of the Innocents (Matthew 2:16). King Herod murdered three of his own sons and called for the slaying of all new-born boys....
